Taking the Time – Making Your Workout Get it Done

Male modeling is a competitive industry, and male models have to constantly struggle to keep their bodies in peak physical condition for photo shoots. Unlike runway models, male fitness models depend on their faces and their muscles to keep their job, and it’s easy to slip into a routine once a few modeling jobs have been landed or a modeling agency picks up your contract. Before you know it, those washboard abs can look more like a flat-front washing machine, and all that definition you worked so hard for through body building can start to slip away. Here are a few tips for keeping your body a perfect visual sensation for more modeling gigs and photo sessions.

Don't Stress
Athletes have peak periods and valley periods during their muscle training cycles, and so will male models. It's normal to put on or lose a few pounds, or slip out of "perfect form" every so often. Even the Greek god like bodies of male models needs rest, and so long as you can be ready and fit for your modeling job, that’s all that matters. Stressing too about periods in which muscle development isn't maximal will make gaining muscle and getting toned that much more difficult - being ready for the photo shoot is all that really matters.

Find a Full-Body Plan
Everyone will tell you that male models need great abs, and guess what – they're absolutely right. When you're starting out, many modeling agencies will ask you to send pictures of your ripped abs, and you need a plan for your abs in order to stack up against other fitness models. But having great abs alone won't get you modeling jobs – you need total body building in order to perform at your maximum. This means finding a work out plan not only for your biceps, triceps, pecs and abs, but also for your quads, calves and hammies. Cardio is also vital for fitness models; your body needs to be ripped, not looking like it’s going to rip itself in two!

There is no perfect workout plan that will guarantee you modeling jobs and gigs. Instead, it’s up to you to do the best workout you can, know what your body is capable of, and then present that to modeling agencies. When combined with a great workout program, hard work can produce a fantastic body; that is the key to open the door into male modeling.

Working It Out in the Industry: Male Fitness Modeling

Male modeling is becoming an increasingly competitive business, as attitudes change and more and more men are looking to break into the industry. One of the most important and up-and-coming niche fields of the male modeling industry is the area of fitness models – an area very different from other fields of male modeling.

When most people think about the modeling industry, they think about high-end fashion, clothing, and women.
When people think about male models, it’s often an image of a skinny, slightly androgynous man wearing the latest fashions out of Europe. However for male fitness models, it’s an entirely different world.

Male modeling agencies that specialize in fitness models are looking for an entirely different body type than runway models.  This slice of the modeling industry wants to see not just you, and your handsome face, but also your muscles.

Modeling jobs in the fitness modeling industry don't always go to the guy who's the buffest, or the one who has the best abs, but if you're looking to get your start in the modeling industry, there are a few things that you need to understand. First, it's important to realize that modeling gigs in this part of the industry are much more concerned about the body as a whole than their counterparts in the mainstream fashion modeling industry. This means that getting a tight, toned body with great abs and good muscle symmetry is key – huge pecs and skinny arms won't land you a job, and neither will a flat stomach that doesn’t have defined abs. Your face is important too – you can't neglect it in favor of your body, but it isn't the only thing that the photographer is going to care about. Male models in this industry are paid to show off their muscles – often in shorts or underwear – and they need to be a total body package.

If you're looking to get a start in the fitness modeling industry, you need to think about what kind of company you want to work for,. But, you need to be up for the challenge.
Body building is a huge part of the fitness side of male modeling, and while you don't need to be Mr. Universe, you will need to take the time to eat right and focus on your muscle development and definition.

The Right Workout :Your Model Body

Fitness models are a special breed of male models. If you are one, or aspiring to be one, you know the kind of pressure that's on you to make sure you're not only just another pretty face, but that you've got the body to back it up. Fitness models are in the position of not only having to keep fit in order keep their jobs coming in the modeling industry, but also doing the right kind of workouts to keep their appeal to modeling agencies all across the industry.

Find the Balance
For fitness models in the male modeling industry, it’s a careful balance between lean and bulky muscle that is most key. Too lean and you'll end up only being viable to modeling agencies that deal with runner magazines and long-distance athletics; too bulky and you'll lose some of the mass-market appeal that a modeling agency is looking for. Balance between lean and large muscle workouts are key for fitness models.

Building Lean Muscle
Lifting weights is only half the battle. Running – or cardio work of any kind – is a key component in the routine of great male models. The right amount of cardio (usually 15 minutes before a workout or 30 minutes on a non-workout day) can get fitness models primed up to burn fat and develop muscle.  This can also help to smooth and lean out muscle that you've been building and ripping. Cardio helps to sculpt defined muscles and give you the look that male modeling agencies are looking for in their leading guys.

Getting Stronger
Of course, cardio alone won't cut it. Fitness models need to be thinking about their biceps, triceps, pecs, quads, and yeah – most importantly your abs. All of these are essential parts in the body building regimen, and fitness models need to focus on them all. No one system will deliver perfect results, but good rules to keep in mind for large muscle groups are to train them hard, with small sets and hard weights, and remember not do them two days in a row. For abs, targeted sit-ups or twists are going to be your ticket to male modeling success.

Eating Right
None of the above will matter, and modeling agencies won't even look at your photos if you don't eat right. Make sure you're getting the whole fuels your body needs and cut out the junk foods, if you want to make it in the world of fitness models.
